Due to its location and close links with the UK, Gibraltar has long been a favoured destination by British expats looking for sunnier climes and an attractive tax regime. Although it’s not quite as well-known as some other offshore territories such as Monaco and the Cayman Islands, Gibraltar tax rates make it a very attractive choice for anyone looking to relocate within easy striking distance of the UK and Western Europe.
How / why did you get into your line of work in the financial services sector?
I’ll hold my hands up and say I was something of an… unlikely candidate for a brokerage at face value, with a diverse back-catalogue of PR clients from sparkling wine and mobile payment apps, to granola and bingo – plus, something of a cavalier attitude towards my pension, for which even the most benevolent financial adviser would send me to the naughty step.
Brexit has led to many unintended consequences surrounding financial services for UK expats living abroad. The main one being that most UK financial advisers will not now be able to advise or manage their clients UK financial products such as pensions and investments whilst their clients are living in the EU. Now the latest hurdle UK financial advisers are facing is Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) which will not extend to UK expats resident in the EU.
How / why did you get into your line of work in the financial services sector?
By chance, I applied for a temporary position whilst studying and the rest is history!
