Spotlight On … Cianon Yeo – Receptionist

Cianon YeoWhat is the most important aspect of your work, in relation to clients, or the part of your day-to-day role which gives you the most satisfaction?

I don’t have direct contact with clients unless they visit head office, and that’s become far less frequent over the last 18 months – I suppose the head office team are my clients and it’s my job to support them. As office receptionist my role has changed a lot since more of the day to day business interactions are taking place online and not face to face. But I keep busy by helping everyone in the office in whatever way I can, even if that’s just keeping them supplied with coffee! I get real satisfaction from being part of a team and knowing that I can help to ease someone else’s workload and make their day a little bit better.

Spotlight On … Clifford Knezovich – IFA

Clifford Knezovich - International Financial AdviserHow / why did you get into your line of work in the financial services sector?

I’ve always been very service orientated, whether it was waiting tables in my teens or building and maintaining Enterprise network infrastructures in Spain and Portugal. I enjoy understanding complex, underlying concepts and I get great satisfaction when I can translate it into something my clients understand, relate to and see the benefits of. I got into financial services because I felt that it was very similar to my background in IT in that I continue to build networks, bridges and connections, however this time it’s not with equipment, it’s with people.

Mark HollingsworthHow / why did you get into your line of work in the financial services sector?

On leaving school aged 17, joining a bank or insurance company was a popular career choice. I spent 13 years with Standard Life, which also gave me the foundation to study and obtain advanced level financial services qualifications. I always wanted to further my career in the industry and to give direct client advice – this took me abroad in 1999 and I have never looked back since.

Spotlight On … Peter Button – International Financial Adviser

Peter ButtonHow / why did you get into your line of work in the financial services sector?

I actually entered the financial services sector by chance. In 2012 I was studying my Masters in Finance when I was cold called to meet with a financial advisor (back in the days when cold calling was normal). I frankly answered that I had no funds to invest, but if they had a job for me then we could continue the conversation. Two weeks later I was employed as a junior assistant in the team and the rest, as they say, is history.

Spotlight On … Paul Rhodes – Financial Adviser & Associate Director

Paul RhodesHow / why did you get into your line of work in the financial services sector?

I have always taken a keen interest in the day to day workings of the global economy, and how geopolitical events can affect the market. My career has always revolved around helping people find suitable solutions to seemingly challenging situations.

Spotlight on … Rebecca Tanke – Personal Assistant to Paul Rhodes

Rebecca TankeHow / why did you get into your line of work in the financial services sector?

Working as a personal assistant is right up my street. I can streamline and tidy everything up and I get to organise and arrange things. My role evolves constantly. With all the challenges Brexit has brought us, alongside many other changes to the industry, it never gets boring. The financial services sector seemed like a challenge and I was willing to take it on.

I knew the owners of Blacktower before I moved to Spain and was impressed with their long-term vision for expansion – also their sense of being a family business, no matter how big or small the company.

SPOTLIGHT ON… Rosemary Sheppard, International Financial Adviser

This week we put the Spotlight On…Rosemary Sheppard who is a Blacktower International Financial Adviser in France, based in the Dordogne.

Rosemary's career in the financial services sector began in 2008 when she signed up for what she initially imagined would be a "regular 9 to 5 job" at a bank. However, in the wake of that year's global banking crisis, Rosemary re-evaluated her professional priorities and realised that the best way she could help clients in the difficult financial climate of the time would be to climb the career ladder to a position of influence. She was further excited by working under a new set of regulations that would offer clients an unprecedented level of extra protections.
